Map Drive from a PC
Mapping Drives on Computers Not on UTA Domain
These instructions are intended for the computers that are usually not part of the UTA domain. You can also use these instructions (starting with step 2) if your UTA domain computer loses the mapping of the network drives or if you need to map additional drives.

Establish a VPN connection or connect via encrypted wireless (on campus).

Right-click on the My Computer icon (usually on the Desktop or in the Start menu) and choose Map Network Drive.

Select a drive letter to represent your network folder, enter your server and folder location, and click Finish.
\\quartz.uta.edu\ne\NetID
This would be the format for student J: drives where, where ne are the first two letters of your NetID, and NetID is your actual NetID. For example, \\quartz.uta.edu\ab\abc1234. Enter your NetID and password when prompted. You may have to type uta\ in front of your NetID.\\server.uta.edu\n\NetID
This would be the format for faculty or staff J: drives where server could be opal, sweeper, or talisman, n is the first letter of your NetID, and NetID is your actual NetID. For example, \\sweeper.uta.edu\j\jones. If you are not sure on which server your folder is located, look it up here.\\server.uta.edu\dept
This would be the format for departmental shared folders (K: drive) where server could be opal, sweeper, or talisman and dept is the departmental abbreviation. For example, \\sweeper.uta.edu\oit. If you are not sure on which server your folder is located, look it up here.\\students.uta.edu\ne\NetID
This would be the format for student web folders, where ne are the first two letters of your NetID, and NetID is your actual NetID. For example, \\students.uta.edu\ab\abc1234\\iridium.uta.edu\classes
This would be the format to map to shared class folders. For example, \\iridium.uta.edu\classes\spch1301

Enter your NetID and password when prompted. You may have to type uta\ in front of your NetID. Your password must not be expired. You can verify the validity of your password and/or choose a new password at the Self Service page.
Mapping Drives on UTA Domain Computers
These instructions are intended only for computers that have previously joined UTA domain and you are trying to access your network drives from an off campus location. Your computer is part of the domain if you have to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and login with your NetID and password.

Establish a VPN connection.

double-click on the yellow lock pad from your system tray to open the current VPN session.

Click on Options and select Windows Logon Properties.

Check the box Enable start before logon and click OK.

Restart the computer.

You will see System Initialization In Progress window when the your computer restarts. Do not cancel this process.

CISCO VPN client will open simultaneously with the Windows login box. Click Connect and login with your NetID and password to start the VPN connection before you attempt to login on the computer. Your password must not be expired. You can verify the validity of your password and/or choose a new password at the Self Service page.

Login to your computer as usual with your NetID and password once the VPN connection is established. Your network drives will be mapped automatically under My Computer.
