OIT Computing Facilities FAQs

 [Printer Friendly Version]

Q:  How do I get software installed in a lab for a class I teach?

A:  Please review our software installation request page.

Q:  If I want to get software installed in one of the labs who pays for it?

A:  If it serves a large number of people at UT Arlington then OIT will seek funding for the software.  If the software directly serves a limited number of people then the group will need to seek it's own funding.  Please click here to learn more.

Q:  Can I print from my laptop?

A:  No, OIT does not support printing to any printer from laptop computers.  You must be logged on to a UT Arlington owned PC, Macintosh, or Sun Workstation in order to print to an OIT Lab Printer.

Q:  How do I print to a lab printer from UNIX (omega/gamma)?

A:  To print a file (text and postscript files), enter the following command:

lprint -Pqueue_name filename

Each system has a default print queue. To determine the default print queue for your system, issue command "lpstat -s".
