Pharos Mac OSX Client
Printing to lab printers is not supported on the wireless network. You will need a Category 5 (Cat 5) network cable. You can borrow a Cat 5 cable from the Help Desk with your Student ID card (or other picture ID), or you can purchase your own from any computer store, including the UTA Computer Store. A Cat 5 cable is a useful addition to any laptop case. Network ports are available to plug into in Sam's Click Cafe, Ransom Hall, and most other OIT and Library computing facilities. Ask a lab attendant for jack locations.
In order to print using UTA's print management system, two small programs (Pharos Notify & Pharos Pop-up Client) must be installed on your laptop.
Notify
-
Notify.dmg - Install this disk image file to install the Pharos Notify Client. When prompted for the database server enter, 129.107.56.99. Leave default port numbers as they appear in the install.
Pop-up

From the
<Printer Model> popup button, select the type of printer associated with
the Popup queue.
Selecting "Generic" will work in most cases.
Click
<Add>. The new Popup queue will now show up in the list of printers.
To print
to the new queue, select it from the printer popup button in the print
dialog of any application.
Alternatively, you can edit the /etc/cups/printers.conf file and restart
the cups daemon to change the printer settings. For each printer listed
in the printer.conf file, edit the line that looks like this:
DeviceURI popup://192.168.2.21/alpha To include the port number,
e.g. DeviceURI popup://192.168.2.21:515/alpha.
NOTE: The printers.conf file is owned by root and is sensitive to extra
characters that may be introduced by some editing applications. To
perform the editing, you will need to authenticate yourself as root and
make sure to use a proper text editor, such as emacs. Changing printer
settings by editing the printers.conf file may be more convenient, but
is also more risky - any commands you enter will be executed with root
(i.e. full)privileges, which has the potential to damage your system if
the wrong commands are entered.
Release Station: The NetID you enter at the Print Release Station will be the ID used to login into your Macintosh computer. This ID is not always the same as your UTA NetID.
