Campus Network Services

To better serve the UTA campus we are testing and beginning to implement an IP address management system designed by Nortel Networks. This software package will allow Campus Network Services (CNS) to offer Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Dynamic Domain Name Service (DDNS) to the entire campus. This should reduce the time it takes to get new machines connected to the campus network, as well as to propagate network changes in a more efficient manner. If you wish to read more about NetID we suggest that you visit Nortel Networks web site.

CNS provides the UTA campus with a variety of network services in an effort to improve network performance and utility. CNS provides several services to make e-mail at UTA easier to use. One of these services is the establishment and maintenance of e-mail aliases for employees on the UTA campus.

We have implemented a web page that allows users to use ping and traceroute utilities to measure network connectivity to machines both on and off of the UTA campus.
CNS provides Network Time Services for the UTA campus via NTP and RDATE protocols. The campus time server is time.uta.edu.

CNS monitors and graphs network utilization with a free software tool known as MRTG.
