New Computer Configuration and Encryption

Office of Information Technology

New Computer Configuration and Encryption

The OIT Encryption Room is responsible for the successful onboarding of all computing devices purchased by UTA. This process involves configuring the basic level software essential to university computers, providing a security method that corresponds with the university’s encryption policy, and recording basic inventory information about the devices we receive. We work closely with Property Management, the Information Security Office, Desktop Support, Application Support, as well as all of the departments under the university umbrella to deliver accurately configured computing devices to campus as quickly as possible.

About The Encryption Room

The OIT Encryption Room is a secure location where new computing devices purchased for use on campus are received, processed in accordance with campus security standards, and then delivered to the department associated with the order to allow for additional support or delivery to the end-user.

Upon arrival, new devices are inventoried, and the corresponding department on record with the Information Security Office is contacted for configuration details. Then we verify that the machine has a configuration that contains a standard UTA software suite which contains Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Reader, Microsoft Office, Mozilla Firefox, UTA's official antivirus, and Cisco AnyConnect VPN when necessary.
