As we work to remain operational during this evolving Coronavirus (COVID-19) response,
here are some key strategies and resources to help you make the shift to working remotely.
This page contains information and links to commonly used student resources in online learning. Click on the tiles on the right to access more information. To change the section, click on the buttons at the top.
Here is a quick list of items to consider when preparing to study online.
• Computer, Laptop, Tablet or Smart Phone
• Speakers & Microphone (built-in or external)
• Keyboard
• Mouse
• Headset
• Power Cords
• Ethernet Cable or Wi-Fi connection
We recognize that some of our students may need wi-fi and computer facility access. Specially
designed, socially distant computer labs on campus are open for students. Wi-Fi access will also
remain accessible in computer labs, dormitories and other locations on campus.
If experiencing these challenges, please inform your instructors so they can work with you on
alternative assignments.
Some Internet Service Providers are making accommodations to assist with internet access during this time. Below are a few links with information from some major providers*.
Your professor will let you know which platform they plan to use for instruction. They may use
Canvas, Teams, Echo360 or a combination of the three.
Canvas allows you to access your grades and courses syllabus.
Teams allows for chat, video conferencing, and file sharing.
MyApps.uta.edu provides students access to many common applications used on campus including Canvas, Teams, Office 365, MyMAV and more.
Matlab, SolidWorks and AnSYS are available for students to download on their home device. To access these software programs, you must submit a request in ServiceNow.
Stay connected with classmates and professors by using Microsoft Teams to chat, talk and share files.
Access electronic resources from the UTA Libraries website.
The University Tutorial & Supplemental Instruction (UTSI) office and IDEAS Center will
continue to serve students utilizing Canvas and Teams.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions will continue at their scheduled time via Microsoft
Teams. UTSI digital one-on-one tutoring can still be booked via TutorTrac Monday – Sunday (7am –
9pm) and online eTutoring continues to be available 24/7.
The IDEAS Center is available for 'digital walk ins' via Teams Monday-Friday (10am-7pm) and
Sat/Sun (10am-4pm).
Students can also access the Tutoring Resources Canvas Course where there are videos, handouts,
and other helpful posts available to assist with coursework.
Linked here are powered study stations on campus so students moving from face to face classes to online ones, quickly know where to go.
Listed below are the current available labs and their capacity starting March 23, 2020:
These spaces have been reconfigured to comply with social distancing recommendations and have
the supplies necessary for recommended cleaning practices. Computer stations will be cleaned
after each use and students can ask for their workspace to be cleaned before use. The lab
locations are listed below.

Resources for conducting remote teaching can be found on the Canvas Remote Teaching website.
Most of the applications you will need to successfully work off-campus are accessible via myapps.uta.edu including Office 365, Canvas, Teams, MyMav and UT Share.
Make sure you know how to access your network and necessary systems.
Try accessing your essential systems such as Teams, Canvas, MyMav and UT Share as soon as
possible in order to ensure a smooth transition. If you discover that you have an issue
accessing a system, check the Knowledge Base for how to articles and resource guides.
If you are unable to successfully connect to the applications required for your duties submit a
ServiceNow ticket or call
817-272-2208. The Office of Information Technology is working diligently to respond to needs
during this transition as quickly and effectively as possible.
Training for staff provided by OIT and Business Affairs is transitioning to remote offerings via Teams or Canvas. Check out the training links below for resources and classes schedules related to Teams, SiteImprove, Microsoft Bookings, Sitecore, Canvas for Non-Academic Use, CampusPress, Process Improvement, MyMav and UT Share. Additional sessions will be posted on the training sites as they become available.
Teams is the primary method for calling and chatting within the UTA community. Make sure that
your team and colleagues know how to best contact you (phone, chat, or email).
If you have not been migrated to a new Teams phone (you still have a Nortel phone on-campus),
complete the
Migration Request Form a to
initiate your conversion to Teams Calling. It will currently take approximately 24 hours to
complete your request.
Once you have been migrated, you will have access to make and receive calls from off-campus.
Continue to employ the security best practices as you work remotely. If you are working with
sensitive information, be sure to keep any paperwork secured and to lock your computer when you
are not using it.
Be prepared to use multifactor authentication when accessing applications including Canvas,
MyMav, Office 365 and more. Multifactor authentication is required as a security measure for
users accessing applications from off-campus locations.
As faculty and staff of the University of Texas at Arlington, it is important that we each do
our part to safeguard University data. Please review
additional details about protecting
University data and assets.
As a VPN user at UTA, you may or may not realize that many of our systems and applications no
longer require VPN to access them. Several examples that no longer require VPN are: Microsoft
Teams, MARS, Canvas and Microsoft Office, because they already use two-factor authentication.
Using VPN with applications and systems that do not require it may cause some lag; as your
computer or device will make multiple unnecessary hops to get to them.
Some systems that do require you to use a VPN connection are:
• Sitecore Training Instance
• ImageNow
• CEMS
• Omega
• ARGUS
Further systems may require a VPN to connect, please contact your local desktop support
personnel for more information.
Talk with your manager and colleagues to determine what is the most important work to complete during your time working remotely.
Look through your Outlook calendar and add Teams call-in options. Practice using video calling
and screen sharing to maintain team dynamics and continue to collaborate.
