- Defender ATP is a robust anti-virus solution designed to prevent and protect your device from viruses, malware, and spyware.
2. What is the purpose of the Defender ATP project?
- The purpose of this project is to ensure compliance with Texas Administrative Code 202 (TAC 202) and UT System UTS-165 (UTS 165) by installing and enabling a robust anti-virus software with the appropriate configurations to safeguard university information and data.
3. When will Defender ATP project be implemented?
- Defender ATP will be installed on all MAC devices first. Please see the project schedule for the remaining devices.
4. Will Defender ATP replace Trend Micro OfficeScan?
- Yes, Defender ATP will replace Trend Micro OfficeScan and become the official anti-virus software for The University of Texas at Arlington.
5. What should I do to prepare for the upgrade or installation of Defender?
- Since this Defender ATP will be upgraded or installed in the background, there are no required steps for preparation.
6. What should I expect during the upgrade or installation of Defender ATP?
- While Defender ATP is deployed in the background, some faculty and staff may receive a notification to indicate the start of the installation.
7. What should I expect after the upgrade or installation of Defender ATP?
- Windows users may be prompted to restart the Defender ATP application to turn on virus protection.
- If you are a MAC user, your device may prompt you to allow access to the application and enable protection. Additionally, our support team will reach out directly to the owners of devices that still indicate non-compliance and provide additional instructions to fully activate security features and remove any remaining features of Trend Micro OfficeScan.
8. How do I know my device is compliant with anti-virus policies and procedures?
- For your device to be considered in compliance with anti-virus policies and procedures, it must be updated with the latest version of Defender ATP and activated with all anti-virus security features.
- Our support teams will personally contact the owner of the device that does not show a successful installation or activation of all anti-virus security features in accordance with the Texas Administrative Code 202 (TAC 202) and UT System UTS-165 (UTS 165). Once contacted, our support teams will set up an appointment that is convenient for you to ensure your device meets the anti-virus requirements
9. What should I do if I get contacted about a device that should not be assigned to me?
- Respond to the Defender ATP email to avoid receiving additional messages for this device.
- Inform your department’s inventory contact that the device(s) is assigned to you in error. Your department’s inventory contact will be responsible for informing Inventory Services to update the device information..
- If you do not know your department’s inventory contact, please send an email to inventory@uta.edu. They will provide you with the name of your inventory contact.
