Project Overview
The University of Texas at Arlington is upgrading its wireless network across the campus to support the increasing population of faculty, staff, and students, as well as the use of technology that continues to drastically evolve to include tablets, smart phones, and other advancements. The current aging network contains outdated wireless access points that causes endless challenges and ultimately impacts the user experience across the University.
This project will include a wireless signal site survey that will determine the quantity and placement of access points required to provide coverage and signal density when accessing the UTA Network. It will also contain an implementation and operational management plan for providing wireless coverage, wireless network control system designs, parts and labor to complete installation of power over ethernet-enabled wireless access points to designated sites, and a fixed-cost services and maintenance schedule for all systems and infrastructure.
With a combination of IT technicians and vendor consultants with specialized experience, the UTA Network will be transformed to offer the following benefits:
- Greater Access with the Expansion of the Network as it includes outside coverage around buildings and creates additional locations available to wirelessly connect to UTA resources
- Improve User Experience with advanced visibility for support teams to monitor systems and make real-time adjustments based on user demands.
- Quicker Resolutions to Network Issues as this new system offers a root cause analysis that identifies potential problems and provides predictive recommendations to minimize potential issues from reoccurring across the network
- Ability to Make Decisions with Advanced Analytics as it proactively analyzes over an extended time and shows how changes to the network impacts the user experience
- Allows for Future Innovations such as the ability to measure and respond to demands in specific areas, assist with navigation on campus, and the possibility of using this technology for self-guided campus tours.
