In alignment with UTA’s goal to centralize and streamline management of all UTA employee computing devices, OIT is changing and improving the way University devices are purchased.
This initiative replaces the previous decentralized model with a unified lifecycle system that includes procurement, configuration, deployment, support, and replacement of employee devices on a four-year cycle.
OIT will maintain an inventory of devices approved for purchase requests and manage the procurement process for University computers.

Professional Device (Default)
- Built for the diverse needs of university professionals including faculty, staff and researchers. Professional devices deliver strong performance for teaching, collaboration, programming, data analysis, and most engineering and research applications. These systems are optimized for mobility, energy efficiency and compatibility with the university's full suite of productivity and academic tools.
Specialized Use Device
- Designed for advanced workloads that exceed typical campus requirements, such as large-scale simulations, 3D modeling or intensive data computation. Specialized devices feature higher-end processors, expanded memory and enhanced graphics capabilities to support these specialized tasks.
To request a computer purchase, follow these steps:
- Submit a ServiceNow ticket requesting to purchase a device. This form requires custodian information, cost center, device selection, and intended device use: employee, research or lab.
- OIT reviews the ticket and communicates, if needed, with the requester about the device’s intended use and other specifics, such as the model or number of devices needed.
- OIT schedules delivery or pickup with the new device custodian via a Microsoft Bookings appointment.
- The requesting department’s cost center is charged for the purchase.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact the OIT Endpoint Lifecycle Management team at OIT-EndpointLM@groups.uta.edu, or speak with your Departmental Support Associate (DSA) or OIT liaison for assistance.
