Project Overview
The Cat 5 Replacement Program modernizes UTA's wired network infrastructure by replacing aging and failing Cat 5e cabling with Cat 6A, the University's current cabling standard. Much of the existing Cat 5e infrastructure was installed more than 20 years ago and no longer reliably supports modern network performance requirements.
Network monitoring has identified widespread cable failures that reduce network speeds and impact wireless access points and other network dependent services. This program restores reliable connectivity, improves performance, and prepares UTA facilities to support future high speed (10 Gbps) network capabilities.
Work includes building assessments, pathway reviews, removal or abandonment of legacy cabling, installation and certification of Cat 6A cabling, standardized labeling, and delivery of updated network documentation. Installation activities are coordinated with building stakeholders to minimize disruption to academic, research, and administrative operations.
