  1. What is Microsoft Teams Calling?

Microsoft Teams Calling is the new telecom service for The University of Texas at Arlington that provides a centralized location to perform all the essential functions, such as calling, messaging, meetings, and other collaborative features.

  2. When do faculty and staff need to transfer their phone number to Microsoft Teams Calling?

Faculty and staff can move their number today to Microsoft Teams using the "Convert your UTA Office Phone to Teams Calling” form. Over the next few months, all remaining UTA numbers will be moved to the new service provider, Microsoft Teams Calling, based on the building-by-building approach listed on the project schedule. Please read the project details for more information about moving to Microsoft Teams.

There are no additional charges associated with replacing the Nortel equipment at the initial deployment to the department if the person had a working phone on the old Telecom system.

  4. How do I know if I have an individual or department number?
    1. Individual UTA numbers: An extension that is used to contact one person or designated to a specific person. It is often used exclusively by one individual when making or answering calls. Normally, this category fits majority of faculty and staff.
    2. Department numbers: Any extension that is used to contact the entire department, shared by several people, or answered by multiple people. It can also be a number that is listed on the website to contact anyone in a specific department.
  5. Are there any steps required from faculty, staff, or department representatives?
    1. Faculty and staff with a direct or individual UTA number should complete the “Convert your UTA Office Phone to Teams Calling” form to move to the new telephone provider today and set up an appointment to receive their new Microsoft Teams compatible desktop phone or headset before the scheduled date.
    2. Department or unit representatives that are responsible for a main office number should complete the “Migrate a Department or Main Number to Teams” ticket. OIT will personally collaborate with the representative indicated on the ticket to set up the number to the department’s specifications.

Please note: Anyone answering the department main line should complete the self-migration steps for individual numbers to convert their numbers to Microsoft Teams before the department number can be moved to the new service provider.
