Isolated SSID retirement
As part of the transition to a standardized wireless environment, UTA will migrate devices currently connected to special-purpose SSIDs into the new SSID framework wherever feasible.
A primary objective of this initiative is to reduce SSID pollution. As the number of visible wireless networks in a given area increases, overall network performance and reliability can degrade. Consolidating SSIDs improves wireless efficiency, simplifies the connection experience and enhances overall network management.
The following SSIDs are pre-shared key-based and will be evaluated for migration to the UTA IoT SSID:
- CPCF&B
- CPCMerch
- LED
- Planetarium Cast
- Precor Guest
- precor-cc
- SmartHospital
- SmartHospitalVR
- SmartHospitalVR1
- SmartHospitalVR2
- SmartHospitalVR3
- Technogym_Cycles
- TMAC IOT
- UTARI_IOT
The following SSID will be evaluated to determine ongoing need, and users will be redirected to the appropriate SSID:
- UTA Construction
Upon completion of this phase, the UTA wireless environment will be standardized to the following SSIDs:
- UTA Employee
- UTA IoT
- UTA Guest
- Eduroam
We recognize that some departments may have use cases that cannot be accommodated by the standard SSID model. These situations will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to ensure operational requirements are met while maintaining alignment with the university’s broader goals of improved security, performance and network simplicity.
