Project Overview
Network access control (NAC) is a security solution that increases network visibility, provides easier access management, and reduces vulnerability risk by enforcing policy on devices joining the UTA network. Various types of NAC clients exist.
Beginning late fall 2023, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will auto-install SecureConnector, a NAC client, on all UTA-owned and managed devices. SecureConnector will be installed on devices in phases based on operating system. OIT will notify the campus community with installation dates and more information when available.
A NAC is designed to:
- Detect and monitor all endpoints connected to the UTA network – both wired and wireless.
- Provide support through an accessible web interface (for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems) for monitoring and remediation by end users. This allows access and compliance for requested security zones.
- Allow tiered access based on
- Endpoint compliance
- Type of asset (e.g., a UTA-owned device, a non-UTA device, Virtual Local Area Networks [VLAN] classification)
- Segment network based on security best practices.
